We can sometimes accommodate last-minute appointment requests if a writing consultant finishes early with another writer!

If you’ve already gone to writingcenter.carleton.edu and discovered that the current time slot (Central Time) is unavailable, you can email us to request a virtual “drop-in” conference. If a consultant becomes free during their shift (perhaps they had a “no show,” or they just finished a conference with another writer early), they will contact you!

Carefully read how this system works:

  1. Email us at writingcenter.group@carleton.edu, and stay close to your email inbox during that hour (e.g., 7:00-8:00 p.m.). If a consultant becomes free, they will email you a Zoom invitation. We cannot accommodate your request if you send it before the hour in which you hope to meet with a consultant.
  2. If you do not hear from the consultant during the hour in which you sent your message, assume that they are still busy with another writer and aren’t available to assist you. In this case, you have two options:
    • Book an appointment at writingcenter.carleton.edu for another time and/or day.
    • Send a new email request for a drop-in during the next hour, but do not submit a request outside of the hour in which you hope to meet with a consultant. (For example, don’t email a request for a “drop-in” appointment between 9-10 p.m. at 8:45 p.m.)
