As a farmers market vendor, I enjoyed “The Kale Effect” [spring]. Markets are not just for food. We help keep away the winter chill with our alpaca products, most of which are produced by the fiber pool and co-op to which we contribute after shearing our herd, and are not available in retail stores.
Another way to get the best and freshest (and sometimes exotic) produce is to join community supported agriculture. Purchase a share from a local farmer and receive whatever is available each week throughout the season.
Farmers markets are also a wonderful venue for meeting people, especially if you are new to a community, as we were initially.
