“The struggle for justice in our country crosses generations. Some of the greatest civil rights organizations in United States history started on college campuses like Carleton.”
—Rev. Al Sharpton, November 7, 2017. The longtime civil rights activist spoke in Skinner Memorial Chapel, took questions from students, and attended a small gathering of Carleton’s Black Student Alliance as part of the National Action Network (NAN) Collegiate Tour. Carleton was the only school included on the national tour that is not a historically black college or university thanks to an alumni connection: Michael Hardy ’77 cofounded NAN with Sharpton in 1991.
