Studio art major Soon Kai Poh ’14 (Singapore), far left, shows off prints and photos of landscapes from Carleton’s art collection to political science major Gabriel Mekbib ’14 (Beijing) and Latin American studies major Janghun Yun ’14 (Republic of Korea) in the lobby of the Weitz Center for Creativity.

“Art is produced to be shared, because it conveys a message,” says Poh, who helped catalog the college’s collection as a student art assistant. “When it’s hidden in a storage area, no one’s going to receive that message.”

Typically the artwork is viewed as part of a class or curated exhibition. But each week during fall term, Poh and fellow art assistant Alice Cohen ’15 (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y.) held “office hours” to expose some of their favorite finds to a wider audience.
