As part of the Why Treaties Matter exhibit, which was on display at the Weitz Center for Creativity during fall term, American studies professor Meredith McCoy and Perlman Teaching Museum curator Sara Cluggish invited students to participate in a Zoom call with Dakota artist Holly Young. Participants asked Young, who was raised on the Standing Rock Reservation, about her activism and discussed pieces of the ledger art she had in the exhibit. The students then voted for their favorite piece, Ancestor’s Embrace, which is now a permanent part of Carleton’s ever-expanding collection of Indigenous art.

See “This Land is Their Land” for more about the Why Treaties Matter exhibit and related campus programming.
