The Engaging Across Viewpoints lecture series is intended to support inclusivity, diversity, and intellectual curiosity within the Carleton community. Its goal is to create space for experimentation, exploration, and intellectual risk-taking inside and outside of the classroom.

Former Secretary of Transportation and 2020 Democratic Party presidential primary candidate Pete Buttigieg will join Carleton President Alison Byerly for a conversation about his extensive political experience, including his recent service at the federal level. Secretary Buttigieg also will answer pre-submitted questions from students, faculty, and staff.

Past Speakers in the Series

The Engaging Across Viewpoints lecture series was launched in October 2024 with a talk from Dr. Simon Cullen, an Assistant Professor and Dietrich College AI and Education Fellow at Carnegie Mellon University. It continued in February 2026 with David Blankenhorn, co-founder of Braver Angels, a citizens’ group working for less rancor and more goodwill in politics and society.
