The Carleton Board of Trustees met on campus from May 8-10, 2025. The following is a brief summary of major topics discussed and actions taken during their meeting.
1. The Board elected 3 second-term trustees, 5 new regular trustees, one alumni trustee, and one young alumni trustee, each for a four-year term starting on July 1, 2025. The Board also approved one former trustees to the role of Emeriti Trustees.
2. The Board approved spring term B.A. degrees, pending successful completion of their remaining requirements.
3. The Board approved the following faculty promotions:
Promotion to Endowed Chair: George Shuffelton (Helen F. Lewis Professor of English)
From Professor to Professor Emeriti: Scott Carpenter (French and Francophone Studies), Trish Ferrett (Chemistry), Susan Jaret McKinstry (English)
Promotion to Full Professor: Peter Balaam (English), Mihaela Czobor-Lupp (Political Science and International Relations), Amna Khalid (History), Alex Knodell (Classics), Anna Rafferty (Computer Science), Jeffrey Snyder (Educational Studies)
4. The Board authorized the naming of 3 new student housing townhomes.
5. The Board approved updates to the Sexual Misconduct Policy and the Alcohol and Drug Policy.
6. The Board approved the Campus Facilities Plan, as recommended by the Campus Facilities Planning Committee and the Buildings and Grounds Committee.
7. The Board approved two memorial resolutions for former trustee Fay Vincent H’01 and emeritus trustee Michael Armacost ’58 H’89.
8. The Board had the opportunity to discuss current national affairs with President Byerly and receive updates on the endowment.
9. The Board heard reports from the Alumni Annual Fund Chair, the Alumni Council President, the Parents Advisory Council Co-Chairs, and the Carleton Student Association President.
10. TRIO students and staff joined trustees for a special dinner and conversation.
11. The Board finalized the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) program with consultant Ruthie Johnson.
12. Trustees toured the newly-renovated Dacie Moses House.
