The Carleton Board of Trustees met in Northfield for its Winter Term meeting on February 5-7, 2026. The following is a brief summary of major topics discussed and actions taken during their meeting:
1. The Board approved the request for mid-year B.A. degrees, pending successful completion of their remaining requirements for graduation.
2. The Board recommended changes to the Faculty Handbook, as passed at the January 12, 2026 meeting of the faculty.
3. The Board approved tenure and promotion to Associate Professor for three faculty members: Barry Costanzi (Physics and Astronomy); Dan Maxbauer (Geology); and Brooke Okazaki (Music).
4. The Board approved promotions to Full Professor for four faculty members: Kristin Bloomer (Religion); Shaohua Guo (Asian Languages and Literatures); Jessica Keating (Art & Art History); and Liz Raleigh (Sociology and Anthropology).
5. The Board approved promotion to the David and Marian Adams Bryn-Jones Distinguished Teaching Professor of the Humanities, an endowed chair, to Professor Daniel Groll (Philosophy).
6. The Board approved the tax returns IRS 990, IRS 990-T, and compliance audit for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2025.
7. The Board approved the comprehensive fee and operating budget for Fiscal Year 2027.
8. The Board approved the acceptance of memorial resolutions in honor of former trustee Joyce Hughes ’61 H01 and President Emeritus Bob Edwards.
9. The Board approved induction to the Founder’s Court of Caesar Sweitzer ’72, P02, P06 and Peg Sweitzer ’71, P02, P06; and Arnold Donald ’76 P02 and Hazel Donald ’76, P02
10. The Board approved William Carleton medals for Arnold Donald ’76, P02 and Hazel Donald ’76, P02; and Michael Wiebolt ’08 and Jenna Wiebolt ’08.
11. The Board received an update on the campaign’s goals, phases, and priorities.
