Do I have to be admitted to TRIO or can I just join?

All qualified students admitted to Carleton must first apply before being considered for the TRIO program.

I applied but wasn’t accepted. What now?

Although we would love to accept all eligible students, our funding limits us to serving only 130 students at a time. We encourage all TRIO-eligible students to interact with the TRIO community by participating in our events (TRIO Awareness Week and Class Act). Additionally, we recommend becoming familiar with the many resources on campus to support all students, including the Academic Support Center, Financial Aid, the Career Center, the Fellowship Office, and SHAC.

Can my acceptance be rescinded?

Yes, failure to meet program requirements results in multiple warnings and ultimate removal from the program.

What are the eligibility requirements?

Please refer to the program information.

What are the benefits of the program?

We offer many benefits. Financial assistance includes our textbook lending library and free tax-prep sessions. Academic benefits include quantitative skills assistance, math tutoring, and advising. Personal and professional enrichment benefits include a strong community of like-minded peers, off-campus retreats, alumni panels, graduate school trips, and various cultural activities throughout the year.

How many TRIO students are there on campus?

TRIO is federally funded to serve 140 students (approximately 35 per class). Depending on the class year, Carleton typically has several hundred TRIO-eligible students.
