Finances can add to a students’ stress-load and can limit their access to some opportunities (e.g. an unpaid internship may not be possible). Some students take on additional jobs off-campus to alleviate their financial burden, which can interfere with study and sleep.
Below is a summary of Carleton fees that are not covered by tuition/scholarships. Acknowledging the burden of added fees, either in class or in a syllabus statement, can be helpful. Transparency of any available funding is critical to ensure that low-income students are not excluded.
