This term, we hear from a Class of 2020 alum, Shalin Carranza, on her time at Carleton and TRIO.

Shalin Carranza ’20
While at Carleton, Shalin Carranza held a variety of different positions around campus ranging from being residential assistant (RA) to a student coordinator at Reunion. She graduated with a political science degree in 2020. Shortly after, she began working for the Alumni Annual Fund where she now holds the position of Associate Director for Young Alumni Philanthropy. At the Alumni Relations Office, she dedicates herself to making it possible for Carleton to be an affordable and educational experience for students. Her recent and current projects have all centered around ensuring that young alumni support current students.
As a TRIO student, Shalin recalls how TRIO taught her that “it takes community support to truly grow and thrive.” Her fondest memories include hanging out with roommates, racing to Culver’s for ice cream, going to Latin American Student Organization (LASO) events and Office of Intercultural Life (back then called OIIL- Office of Intercultural and International Life) get-togethers, as well as going to rugby games on Saturdays.
