Now that spring term has wrapped up and our TRIO students are off completing internships, conducting research, or working summer jobs, I’ve had a chance to reflect on what a full and energizing term it’s been. This spring was rich with learning, growth, and new experiences, both on and off campus! Below are just a few of our highlights:

Washington D.C. Enrichment and Advocacy Trip:
Over spring break, five TRIO students joined Rosie and me in Washington, D.C. for the Council for Opportunity in Education’s annual Policy Seminar. We explored several key museums and historical sites, learned about TRIO and federal education policy, and had the incredible opportunity to meet with Senators and Representatives to advocate for the continued support of TRIO programs.
Workshops & Events:
Throughout the term, we hosted 24 events designed to help students prepare for what’s next, whether that’s navigating the job market, tackling comps, or growing as leaders. Highlights included a Salary Negotiation workshop co-hosted with the Career Center and the Student Engagement Series, a session for juniors on what to expect during Comps, and our always-popular Professional Etiquette Dinner. It was great to see so many students show up, engage thoughtfully, and build community together.!

Graduation:
One of the most meaningful moments of the year is always graduation. This spring, 35 TRIO seniors walked across the stage, many of whom were the first in their families to earn a college degree. It’s hard to put into words how proud I am of their hard work, resilience, and drive. Celebrating their success with them and their families and supporters was the best way to end the term!

New York City Graduate School Trip:
Just after finals, nine students joined us for a five-day educational trip to New York City. We visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art, explored the vibrant histories of Chinatown and Little Italy, learned about the theatre district at the Museum of Broadway, and saw a Broadway show! We also toured NYU’s campus to get a feel for graduate study in a large urban setting. The trip was packed with learning and connection, and I’m grateful we could offer this experience!
As always, I’m inspired by the energy and determination of our students. Thank you to everyone, students, staff, faculty, and supporters who made this term such a success! I look forward to seeing you in the fall!
