Carleton has a variety of EV chargers on campus, some of which are available for public use, while others are designated for Carleton use only. This guide gives information on publicly available EV chargers on campus.

Publicly available EV chargers:

  • James Hall parking lot (ChargePoint chargers-must pay using ChargePoint account)
    • Four vehicle capacity
    • Level 2 (6.6 kW) ports
  • Recreation Center parking lot (Blink charger-can pay with credit card or Blink account)
    • Two vehicle capacity
    • Level 2 (6.6 kW) ports
  • The online campus map shows the publicly available charger locations in the “Amenities & Safety” section

Who can use the publicly available EV chargers?

  • Publicly available EV chargers are for anyone: Carleton faculty, staff, students, campus visitors, campus contractors, and the public.
  • Only commercially and licensed EVs may use the publicly available EV chargers.

Charging Infrastructure:

  • Carleton chargers have J1772 ports. EV drivers are responsible for supplying any needed adapters.
  • Users are expected to respect the charging equipment and the space around it to keep the equipment in good working order, prevent unit damage, and avoid injury to users from trip hazards. Examples of this include:
    • Gently handling the charging cable and allowing the charging cable to retract back into the unit when done charging
    • Replace the charging head into the pedestal mounted holster when done charging

Price:

  • Charging is priced at $0.30 / kWh.
  • Faculty and staff can charge at a discounted rate of $0.15 / kWh by sending a request through the ChargePoint or Blink software to join the Carleton EV Network.
  • Carleton reserves the right to change the pricing structure of the EV chargers.

Availability:

Carleton does not guarantee that EV chargers will be functioning at all times. There may be
times the chargers are unavailable due to maintenance, construction, or special lot closures
without notice
.

  • Chargers are available on a first come, first served basis.
  • Parking at the EV charging stalls is restricted to EVs plugged in for charging.
  • Once an EV has reached full charge, the driver is expected to move that car to a non-EV charging spot as soon as possible, to allow others to use the charger.

Non-public chargers on campus:

  • Two ports in the lot to the east of Skinner Chapel are reserved for Carleton Security Services.
  • Four ports in the Stadium lot are reserved for the Carleton Fleet.
