April Sellers is the Founder and Artistic Director of the April Sellers Dance Collective which is renowned for its complex expressions of gender and identity in highly crafter performances. Her most recent and transgressive performance, Animal Corridor, prompted the award “Artist of the Year” by City Pages in 2017. Her works have been commissioned by The Right Here Showcase, Candy Box Festival, Intermedia Arts, The Southern Theater, and Red Eye Theater in Minneapolis, and Dancing Quarterly in Boston. She is a recipient of fellowships/grants from MN State Arts Board, Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, Ohio Partners for the Arts, and The McKnight Foundation. April received a Sage Award for Outstanding Performance for the site-specific “House of Big Love,” created and performed with collaborator Judith Howard at a St. Paul residence. Over the past decade, Sellers has been invited to participate in a number of residencies like the Djerassi Resident Artists Program (Santa Cruz, California) and the Maggie Allessee National Center for Choreography (Tallahassee, Florida). She holds an MFA in Dance from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee.
