Troubleshooting Kerberos

The message Password incorrect indicates that the wrong password was entered. Your Kerberos password is not necessarily the same as the one you use to log into systems that prompt for a user name and password, even if you can log directly into the KDC machine. If you still get this message after retrying your Kerberos password, ask your Kerberos administrator to reset your password for you.

The message Time is out of bounds indicates that your workstation's clock is not synchronized with other systems on the network. The Kerberos protocol requires that the clocks of all participating systems be synchronized within 5 minutes of one another. To correct the condition:

  1. Verify that the date and time on your workstation are set correctly.
  2. Use the Configuration Utility to verify that Cisco TCP/ IP Suite is configured properly for your time zone.

The message Can't send request indicates there was a problem contacting the KDC. To resolve this problem:

  1. Verify that you entered the name of the KDC correctly in the Configure Kerberos dialog box.
  2. Use Ping to verify that your workstation can communicate with the KDC.
