Troubleshooting Enhanced Mosaic

This section contains information to help you solve potential problems with Enhanced Mosaic.

When You Cannot Open a File

If you cannot open a file:

  1. Try again after a few minutes in case the server is overloaded.
  2. Try to open a different URL. If you can open other URLs, verify that you entered the URL using the correct case and that it does not begin with a space.
  3. If you are using a proxy server, verify it is configured correctly.
  4. Try other TCP/IP applications, such as email or FTP. If they do not work properly either, there may be a problem with your network connection.
  5. In the URL field, type the IP address of the server rather than its domain name. If this works, your DNS (Domain Name System) server may be unavailable.

Displaying Server Messages

Enhanced Mosaic can display messages received from the server. Messages from servers often provide more detailed information about problems than error messages from Enhanced Mosaic. Server messages appear in the current document window, not in a dialog box.

To display server messages:

  1. Choose Preferences from the Edit menu.

    The Preferences dialog box appears.

  2. Choose Miscellaneous from the drop-down list.

    The Miscellaneous panel appears.

  3. Check the Show Server Messages check box.
  4. Click OK.

The Preferences dialog box closes, returning you to the document window.

Displaying Technical Information

To display technical information about your system:

  1. Choose About Mosaic from the Help menu.
  2. Click the Support button.
  3. To save the information, click the Save button.
