Attaching Files to a Message

Pronto Mail lets you send files in their native format. You do not need to manually encode or decode them. Recipients can save attached files and even view them from within Pronto Mail if they have the associated application on their workstations.

To attach a file from any Edit window:

  1. Click the Attach button. The Select a File to Attach dialog box appears.

  2. Select a file to attach. The Attachment Type dialog box appears.

  3. You can accept the Attachment Type dialog box as it appears or you can add a description to override the file name as it appears for the attachment. Pronto Mail determines if the attachment is binary or text. Pronto Mail supports MIME and Sun Attachments for attaching binary files. Select the format according to the mail application that the intended recipient uses. The most common format is MIME.
  4. Click OK to attach, or Cancel to close the dialog box.

If you attach a file, an icon and file name appear at the bottom of the Edit window.

Note

Messages with attachments take slightly longer to send. When a message is being sent to the host, a bar indicating the size of the file and incrementally showing the percent sent appears in the lower left of the Pronto Mail desktop.

Information about MIME may be found on the World Wide Web at:

Viewing an Attachment

If you have created an association for the file type attached to your message, Windows opens the associated application and displays the attached file. (Create an association in Windows 3.x with the File Manager; in Windows 95, choose Options from the My Computer View menu.)
