Many organizations use a firewall (usually on a router or computer) to protect their internal network from external access. A proxy server is a program, typically running on a firewall machine, that can be configured to block external access, while permitting users behind a firewall to access Internet resources. If you are not familiar with firewalls or proxy servers, or do not know if your organization uses a firewall or proxy server, see your system administrator for more information.
Enhanced Mosaic lets you specify a different proxy server for HTTP, gopher, and FTP protocols.

Enhanced Mosaic includes several features to increase performance. You can:

To load documents in Enhanced Mosaic without images:
The Preferences dialog box appears.
The Display panel appears.
If you have configured Enhanced Mosaic to load documents without images, you can view the missing images by clicking the Load Missing Images toolbar button, or by choosing Load Missing Images from the Navigate menu.

Enhanced Mosaic can display images in a document as it loads them, rather than displaying them all at once after it loads the entire document.

Images in documents that specify the size of the inline images are displayed as they are loaded.
The Preferences dialog box closes, returning you to the document window.

To use a disk cache:
The Preferences dialog box appears.
The Cache panel appears.
