Configuring DNS (Domain Name System)

Configure domain name service with the DNS tab.

If your site does not use DNS, you can create a host table instead.

Adding DNS Servers to the Table

To identify a domain name server:

  1. Start the Configuration Utility and choose the DNS tab.
  2. Click the New button. The New DNS Server IP Address dialog box appears.
  3. Enter the IP address of the domain name server.
  4. Click OK.
  5. When finished with the Configuration Utility, click Done and save your changes.

Moving Entries in the DNS Table

The Configuration Utility allows you to control the order in which name servers are accessed in the DNS table.

To move a DNS server IP address up in the search order, select the entry and click the Up button. To move it down, click the Down button.

Modifying an Entry in the DNS Table

To modify an entry in the DNS table:

  1. Start the Configuration Utility and click the DNS tab.
  2. In the DNS table, select the entry you want to modify.
  3. Click the Modify button. The Modify DNS Server IP Address dialog box appears.
  4. Modify the DNS server IP address.
  5. Click OK.
  6. When finished with the Configuration Utility, click Done and save your changes.

Deleting an Entry from the DNS Table

To delete an entry from the DNS table:

  1. Start the Configuration Utility and choose the DNS tab.
  2. In the DNS table, select the entry you want to delete.
  3. Click Delete.
  4. When prompted, click Yes to confirm the deletion.
  5. When finished with the Configuration Utility, click Done and save your changes.

Modifying the Search Order for TCP/IP Name Resolution

To establish how the workstation should conduct its search when attempting to translate host names to IP addresses:

  1. Start the Configuration Utility and choose the DNS or Host Table tab.
  2. Click the Set button. The Set Search Order dialog box appears.
  3. Click the desired search option:
  4. Click OK. The entry appears in the Search Order group.
  5. When finished with the Configuration Utility, click Done and save your changes.
