Setting Up an ARP Table

The ARP table stores IP and Ethernet address pairs for quick lookup.

Warning

Adding or modifying entries in the ARP table can seriously affect TCP/IP communications. Do not create or modify ARP table entries unless you are sure of their effects on your network.

To add entries to the workstation's ARP table, use the ARP tab in the Configuration Utility.

Adding a Mapping to the ARP Table

To add an entry to the ARP table:

  1. Start the Configuration Utility and choose the ARP tab.
  2. Click the New button. The New ARP Table Entry dialog box appears.
  3. In the Host Address field, enter the IP address of the remote host.
  4. In the Hardware Address field, enter the hardware (or physical) address of the remote host. The hardware address is comprised of six groups of two hexadecimal digits separated by colons, such as 00:00:A6:00:01:BA.
  5. In the Translation group, check Proxy and Publish as appropriate. Both options may be enabled simultaneously.
  6. Click OK.
  7. When finished with the Configuration Utility, click Done and save your changes.

Modifying an ARP Table Entry

To modify an entry in the ARP table:

  1. Start the Configuration Utility and choose the ARP tab.
  2. In the ARP table, select the entry you want to modify.
  3. Click the Modify button. The Modify ARP Table Entry dialog box appears.
  4. Modify the ARP table entry.
  5. Click OK.
  6. You can continue using the Configuration Utility or you can exit and save your changes. To exit the Configuration Utility, click Done.

Deleting an ARP Table Entry

To delete an entry from the ARP table:

  1. Start the Configuration Utility and choose the ARP tab.
  2. In the ARP table, select the entry you want to delete.
  3. Click Delete.
  4. When finished with the Configuration Utility, click Done and save your changes.
