Gould Library to Showcase Polar Research
Over Winter Term, the Gould Library will celebrate the 4th International Polar Year (IPY) by organizing an exhibition called “The View from the Ice: Science, Popular Culture, and the International Polar Years.” The exhibition will examine the history and tradition of international scientific cooperation in the polar regions established by the first IPY in 1882-1883. It will include rare books and artifacts from the Library’s Special Collections as well as the College Archives. The exhibition will also feature maps and photographs documenting the work of two scientists actively conducting climate change research in polar regions: Christine Siddoway ’84, alum and professor of geology at Colorado College and Robert W. Jacobel, professor of physics at St. Olaf. The exhibition will run from December 18, 2007 through March 15, 2008.
