Once again, this term has been a busy one for the STAs and other environmental groups at Carleton. Here’s a sampling of some major events and achievements:
- A group of about 15 students attended Power Shift, a national energy conference for students in DC
- Students from MPIRG, Farm House, and Food Truth planned a rally about the national Farm Bill and hosted a panel discussion on the bill
- Take Back the Tap successfully lobbied for CSA (Carleton Student Association) to pass a measure prohibiting their funding of bottled water for student groups and activities
- Earth Week occurred during the week leading up to Earth Day, complete with dinners/discussions at Farm and WHOA houses, film screenings, and an Earth Day carnival
- Food Truth successfully initiated a campaign to get organic, fair-trade bananas served in the dining halls
- The SRF (Sustainability Revolving Fund) Committee implemented a pilot program in Burton and Cassat dorms to allow residents to check out drying racks
- And, the FIRST graduating class of Environmental Studies majors will be presenting their comps this evening at 5 in LDC 104!
Overall, it’s been a great term for environmentalism at Carleton and we’re already looking forward to next year!
