This year amongst countless presentations, dinners, and activities Reunion 2013 attendees were also asked to pause and think about their water purchasing choices. A three-day bottled water-free event (free even of larger Culligan water coolers), this year’s reunion included email reminders to “Bring Your Own Bottle”, water pitchers and cambros at catered dinners and other events, an outdoor refilling station, and a water taste test, as well as signage directing attendees to the fountain nearest them. Throughout reunion (and continuing on during the school year), bottled water was not available for sale in the cafes or bookstore. From this experience, we’ve identified areas in need of better signage and chilled water refilling stations. And perhaps most importantly, it was a thought-provoking lesson for reunion organizers and attendees alike about how to organize and attend events that don’t rely on bottled water.
