All-campus Stairwells and Bathrooms Retrofit
During winter and spring of 2017, Carleton’s Energy Club completed an inventory of lighting in stairwells and bathrooms of most buildings on campus. They complield a list of recommended bulb changes and automatic sensor additions, which were accepted by maintenance and will be implemented in late summer and early fall of 2017.
Library Lighting Retrofit
Over the summers of 2010 and 2011 Carleton completely over-hauled the lighting systems in the library. Upgrades included switching to more efficient bulbs, installing a programmable control system, installing occupancy sensors, and adding photocell control to lights near windows.
The changes resulted in a massive 40% reduction in the Library’s electricity usage. In absolute terms, this is 30,000 fewer kWh per month, equivalent to 32 average homes. It also save the college over $22,000 a year.
