Weitz Cinema has a limited number of assistive technology devices available for those with impaired hearing or vision. Occasionally, older film titles may be shown that predate the technology and are not compatible, in which case open captioning will be enabled on the main screen. SUMO will indicate when a film is not compatible with assistive technology in their weekly marketing to students.

Reserving the Devices

Students who need to use one or both devices are encouraged to reserve them by filling out the form below. There are a limited number of devices available. Students who make reservations should pick up their device/s from the student projectionist in Weitz Cinema prior to the movie showing. The student will need to check out the device by submitting their OneCard to the projectionist for the duration of the movie. The device should be returned at the end of the movie. When it is returned, the student’s OneCard will be returned.

All reservations should be made by 4pm on Fridays. There can be no guarantee that the technology will be available to a student if it is not reserved.

Students reserving one or more devices should plan to arrive at Weitz Cinema fifteen minutes before the movie is scheduled to begin to allow for set-up of the devices while the house lights are up. Students who arrive late should enter the theater on the second floor by the projectionist’s booth. The projectionist will assist with the device set up in the dark.

Students who are requesting use of this technology will need to use the form to reserve the devices EACH and EVERY time they wish to use them for a SUMO movie. This form only reserves the devices for a SUMO showing. Other showings in the Weitz may have their own reservation forms. The devices may not leave Weitz Cinema.

Members of the general public will be allowed to use the devices only when they are not needed by a student. In lieu of a OneCard, the device will be checked out by non-students by submitting a driver’s license to the projectionist. Available technology will be available on a first come, first served basis.
