Carleton’s Student Union Movie Organization (SUMO) is a student organization advised by the Student Activities Office in the Division of Student Life. Its purpose is to bring new release and popular movies to the Weitz Center for all members of the campus community to enjoy, free of charge. Movies are shown on Friday and Saturday nights in the Weitz Cinema, giving viewers the big screen experience in a more intimate setting. Occasionally, outdoor movies are shown on the Bald Spot and students are encouraged to bring blankets and snacks.
The student representative for SUMO is a member of the Student Activities Programming Board (SAPB) and works collaboratively to determine the movie schedule each term. Student projectionists are trained on how to operate the professional equipment, including the assisted listening devices available for check-out.
