What is Virtual Hosting?

Hosting is the opportunity to connect with prospective students from around the world based on shared affinities or geography (or both!). Our Hosting program is virtual until determined otherwise meaning that the volunteer schedule is very flexible and generally only takes up about an hour of your time every other week via Skype or Zoom or Whatsapp etc.

When you are paired with a prospective student, you will receive an email with their contact information and their preferred method of communication. Then, you two will find a time and platform that works well for both of you. This scheduled interaction will last about an hour but there’s no conversation too short or too long.

Please note that the responsibilities of hosting stay the same all year. But, during fall and winter terms you’ll be chatting with prospective students (aka students who haven’t yet been admitted) and then in spring term you’ll be connecting with admitted students! So, the conversations may change a bit come April. The same details regarding timing and platforms still apply.

How do I get involved?

Fill out this form and we’ll be in touch! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Erin Manuel at manuele@carleton.edu (Fall term) or Joey Silknitter at silknitterj@carleton.edu (Winter and Spring terms).

What else should I know?

There will be hosting trainings each Fall term for returning students and each Spring term for first-year students. To be a host for Carleton in any capacity, you must complete the protecting minors training.
