A note for first-years:
It is very difficult for first-year students to secure an REU position (i.e., a formalized research position) without extensive prior research experience. Instead of applying to such programs, we highly encourage first-year students to consider other summer options (see our Summer Internship Info Session Presentation) or to find a position by directly reaching out to professors at Carleton or outside laboratories or by networking through Carleton faculty, friends, family, and the Alumni Network. Carleton Career Center Summer Internship Funding and the Kolenkow-Reitz Fellowship both provide support for an unpaid position outside of Carleton.
