One of the goals of CANOE is to encourage students to get active and allow greater access to outdoor adventures. Trying to go outdoors and plan a trip may be fun but gear is something that is necessary, and not all of us may have the right equipment. CANOE is here to save the day!! CANOE lends out gear to all Carleton adventure seekers for trips off-campus. Since gear loans are managed by students, we ask that you submit gear loans at least 24 hours in advance of your adventure so Gear Managers have time to schedule meet ups for returns and check outs in advance.
To request a gear loan, fill out the form on this page or email our gear managers Hailey Thompson (thompsonh@carleton.edu ) or Zoe Smith (smithz2@carleton.edu ). They also are happy to answer any questions you may have about the gear loan program. In the average academic year, we loan tents, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, tarps, backpacks, and cooking utensils. We DO NOT loan canoes, paddles, life vests, climbing gear, snow sleds, slack lines, hammocks, stoves, or camp fuel. Please get your gear requests in by 5 p.m. on the Thursday before the weekend! Please note: We cannot loan gear for on-campus use. Gear is for off-campus use only.
Loaning gear is FREE! We just ask that you ensure the gear is returned in good condition. Accidents happen, and we’ll address it on a case-by-case basis.
