Each term, the residential halls and houses close for a College Break Period. Students living in on-campus housing should review and complete important end of term action items prior to departing for break. Select the tab below that best describes your end of term plans. Each tab outlines specific steps to complete before you depart campus prior to 2:00pm on Thursday, November 22.

After 2:00pm on November 22, only approved Break Residents will be allowed to access the residential spaces.

I am returning to the same room after break

Students who are returning to the same room after break should leave their belongings in their room and take their room/house key(s) with them upon departure.

  • Turn the thermostat on and set it to 68 degrees.
  • Empty, defrost, and clean the College-owned micro-fridge. View Cleaning Instructions.
  • Remove your trash and recycling from the room and deposit into an outside waste container.
  • Remove ALL perishable food from your room including items in the refrigerator.
  • All electronics should be unplugged including power strips.
  • Close and lock windows (including storm windows).
  • Turn lights off.
  • Lock door.
  • Take your key with you!

*If you or someone you live with has been approved to stay for break, still complete the checklist and check the “Break Resident” box on the door tag on your bedroom door.

I have been approved to change rooms

Students who have been approved to change rooms must completely vacate their current assignment by 2:00pm on Thursday, November 22. There are two options available to meet this deadline:

  1. Coordinate with your Winter Term roommate(s) to move your belongings into your new room before break. Please leave your items packed, labeled, and moved to the perimeter of your new room. Work directly with your Winter Term roommates if you wish to place your items in that room, as you will not receive a key to that room until Winter Term opening. Students can begin moving to their new room during reading and exam days.
  2. Store your items in the on-campus student storage facility (Goodhue Hall). View Available Open Storage Hours to coordinate your departure.

Please complete the following checklist by 2:00pm on Thursday, November 22 to meet the proper check out requirements. An improper check out may result in an Improper Checkout Fee.

  • Remove all of your belongings from your room.
  • Remove all trash and recyclables to outside containers and clean your room.
  • Empty, defrost, and clean the College-owned micro-fridge assigned to your room. View Cleaning Instructions.
  • Turn the thermostat on and set it to 68 degrees.
  • Close and lock windows (including storm windows).
  • Put your key into the yellow Key Return Envelope found in your student mailbox and drop the envelope into an Express Key Box

Check your student mailbox on Friday, November 11 where you can find a labeled Key Return Envelope and detailed check out instructions.
