Starting college can be a stressful time, and even more so for students with chronic health conditions. The potential for medical crises, combined with the independence of living away from home, can create anxiety for both students and their families. In collaboration with Security Services, SHAC works closely with students and their home healthcare providers to develop emergency care plans for students with potentially life-threatening conditions.

Who might benefit from a medical protocol? Examples of health conditions in which a medical protocol may be considered include:

  • Type I Diabetes
  • Seizure Disorders
  • Bleeding Disorders
  • Anaphylaxis
  • …or any health condition in which a student or family would ask that the college intervene in a specific way in the event of an emergency

Students who utilize the medical protocol process at Carleton will be required to wear a medical alert ID. Find out more information about medical protocols at the link on the right sidebar.
