Medical Services

Our medical services team is comprised of nurse practitioners who are licensed to assess, diagnose, and treat your medical concerns. We can take care of most of your health needs while on campus and can help you access care off campus when needed.

Services we provide include

Sexual Health

Birth control, STI testing, PrEP, PEP, Gynecologic Concerns, Pregnancy testing and counseling, Emergency contraception, Condoms, Pap testing. Click to read more.

Acute Illnesses

Any new illnesses or symptoms including: eye, ear, nose and throat concerns; evaluation of upper respiratory illnesses such as influenza, strep, COVID-19, etc; skin concerns, bladder infections, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, etc.

Psychiatry Services/Mental Health Medication Management

SHAC Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Karl Olson, DNP provides care to students on Mondays and Tuesdays during academic terms. Full-time NPs are also available to discuss mental health medications with students.

Injuries

Management of acute injuries such as minor burns, sprains, strains, concussions, and cuts/scrapes. We do have limited supplies available for cuts requiring sutures, but depending on injury may need to refer to Urgent Care.

Prescriptions

Our medical staff can write prescriptions to be filled at local pharmacies. Many of our commonly prescribed medications are available from the SHAC dispensary at cost, billed to your student account.

Laboratory Services

Point-of-care tests in clinic (strep, mono, UA, flu, COVID, etc.) as well as contract with LabCorp for send-out labs. See more by clicking here.

Services Not Provided on Campus

  • Complete Physical Exams
    • We do offer gynecologic exams (pap smear) and preventative labs as needed
    • Pre-employment physicals may be performed on a case-by-case basis
  • Imaging (X-ray; MRI; CT)
  • Allergy shots
    • You can get your allergy injections at the Allina Medical Clinic (507-663-9000). You will need a consult with an Allina allergist before they will allow injections to occur (can be virtual).
  • Storage of personal medications for students.
    • We suggest purchasing a refrigerator or lock box to use in your dorm room.
    • Lockable medicine containers are available to purchase at a reduced cost at Sterling Drug, 700 Division St., Northfield.
