Dragon Boat Festival, Senior Celebration

Fri, May 30, 2025 • 5:30pm - 8:00pm (2h 30m) • Weitz 235

This event is hosted by the Chinese Club in celebration of the Dragon Boat Festival, a traditional Chinese holiday with deep cultural and historical significance. This festival commemorates the ancient poet Qu Yuan and is marked by the preparation and sharing of zongzi (??)—glutinous rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves. The event will serve as both a cultural celebration and a farewell gathering for graduating senior Chinese international students, especially those who may not have family present to mark this major milestone. By aligning the celebration with the Dragon Boat Festival, we aim to provide a meaningful cultural experience while honoring our seniors in a way that is rooted in Chinese tradition. Food catering will mainly focus on zongzi–purchased and cooked by our own Chinese club members, showcasing different regional flavors and variations to popularize the diversity within Chinese cuisine. We will also distribute regional snacks featuring this festival as well, including tea eggs and salted duck eggs. The event will start with some introduction of the culture behind the Dragon Boat Festival and a kahoot activity based on a survey the club conducted on graduating seniors from China, followed by a dinner where attendees can connect over traditional food and reflect on their shared experiences.

Door opens at 6:00 PM. We will be there at 5:30 PM to set up.
