CHS Hmong New Year
In Laos and Thailand, the final rice harvest before the cold season marked Hmong New Year. For the Hmong community, this was a time to prep and store rice, a stable food for many Asian culture, for the winter and celebrate with large feasts and traditional Hmong clothing. Additionally, it was a time for boys and girls to court (an activity that will be discussed at CHS’s event). With such a slim Hmong population on Carleton campus, CHS hopes to bring the experience Hmong New Year to our peers and allow them the opportunity to learn about Hmong culture and experience of what we call our new year.
