Alicia Prieto Langarica is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Mathematics & Statistics at Youngstown State University. She earned her B.S. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Texas at Dallas in 2008 and her Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2012. Alicia's research lies at the intersection of mathematics and biology, with applications in medical modeling, epidemiology, sleep regulation, and thermoregulation. She has also recently explored mathematics education, public policy, and data science applications in her research portfolio. Alicia's teaching has been recognized with the Henry L. Alder Award for Distinguished Teaching from the Mathematical Association of America in 2019 as well as the 2024 Transforming Post-Secondary Education in mathematics. This Convocation is sponsored by Elizabeth Nason Distinguished Visitors Fund.
