Leadership & Intercultural Programs Program Assistant

This position serves as the main student lead from the Student Activities Office on topics related to leadership, involvement, ethics, communication, networking, civic engagement, diversity, cultural awareness, respect, empathy and creating a welcoming and inclusive campus environment. The Program Assistant in this position will work with the Student Activities, CSA organizations and various campus departments to develop and ensure that a diverse selection of leadership and intercultural programs and activities offered for the campus community. The position also act as the central campus resource to help students initiate, plan, fund and achieve their involvement goals, including working collaboratively with the Dean of Students Office in administering the Student Leadership & Involvement Grant.

Music & Dance Program Assistant

This position coordinates activities that foster an appreciation of music, dance, and performance in a variety of genres. By recruiting and involving a committee of student volunteers, this position works collaboratively with departments and student organizations in researching and selecting upcoming dance and musical performances for the Carleton community. Examples of events typically coordinated by these positions include Halloween, Midwinter Ball, and Spring Concert.

Art & SUMO Program Assistant

This position coordinates a variety of art and film related programs. Examples of programs coordinated by this position include the student art exhibit in Sayles-Hill, coordinating the Student Union Movie Organization (SUMO) film series, scheduling student projectionists, and developing a variety of other film-based events both on and off campus. In addition, this position will work with student organizations in interpreting and abiding by copyright laws and licensing requirements as it relates to showing films on campus. Possible future programs include a multicultural film/discussion series, Northfield area productions, or bus trips to museums. The Art & SUMO Program Assistant reports directly to the Assistant Directors of Student Activities and assists in the supervision of the following student positions:

Special Events Program Assistant

This position coordinates a variety of special events and activities throughout the academic year and allows for a great deal of student input and programmatic flexibility. By collaborating with other departments, the Carleton Student Association, and student organizations, this position capitalizes on the creativity and spontaneity of Carleton students by providing logistical and event planning support. Programs coordinated by this position may include Metro Access Fund, Halloween, live comedy, end-of-term study breaks, and Senior Week.

Marketing & Graphic Design Program Assistant

This position provides marketing and promotional support for a variety of programs and services coordinated by the Student Activities Programming Board (SAPB). This includes the design of logos, posters, table tents, brochures, promotional items, and annual publications. Programs coordinated by these organizations are designed to challenge beliefs, educate others, inspire the individual, entertain the soul, and create a sense of campus community and pride. 

Outdoor Programs & CANOE Liaison

This position assists in the development of a progressive and comprehensive outdoor recreation program, paying close attention to well established programs already active with professional organizations such as the Association of College Unions International (ACUI). The Outdoor Program will assist existing outdoor student organizations, offer leadership training, and provide students with a variety of safe and engaging outdoor activities and services.

General Manager of the Cave

The General Manager is responsible for leading a group of students in the overall management and organization of The Cave. The Cave provides a variety of programs and services that challenge beliefs, educate others, inspire the individual, entertain the soul, and create a sense of campus community and pride. 

Working closely with the Carleton Student Association, Student Activities Office and Cave staff, the General Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operation of the organization and moving the organization forward. This includes facility management, employee supervision, employee training and development, inventory and the development of both long and short-term goals. The General Manager reports directly to the Assistant Director of Student Activities and assists in the supervision of all student positions.

Counter Manager of the Cave (5 hrs / week)

The Counter Manager is responsible for leading a group of students in providing resources and assistance to patrons of The Cave. The Cave provides a variety of programs and services that challenge beliefs, educate others, inspire the individual, entertain the soul, and create a sense of campus community and pride. 

Working closely with the Carleton Student Association, Student Activities Office and Cave staff, the Counter Manager is responsible for counter management, inventory control and the development of both long and short-term goals as they relate to counter services. The Counter Manager reports directly to the Assistant Director of Student Activities and assists in the supervision of the following student positions:

  • Counter staff

Booking Manager of the Cave

The Booking Manager position solicits student involvement and connects with both professional and student talent. The Cave provides a variety of programs and services that challenge beliefs, educate others, inspire the individual, entertain the soul, and create a sense of campus community and pride.

This position, along with the Assistant Booking Manager and student input, leads and creates a comprehensive entertainment schedule. The Booking Manager reports directly to the Assistant Director of Student Activities and assists in the supervision of the following student positions:

  • Assistant Booking Manager
  • Marketing staff

Audio & Lighting Manager of the Cave

The Sound & Lighting Manager manages backline and all tech needs for both contracted artists and entertainment at The Cave. The Cave provides a variety of programs and services that challenge beliefs, educate others, inspire the individual, entertain the soul, and create a sense of campus community and pride.

This position ensures each show at The Cave looks, sounds, and feels professional. Additionally, the Audio & Lighting Manager maintains equipment inventory, stage setup and teardown, and other vital tasks to ensure a successful calendar of events. This position reports directly to the Assistant Director of Student Activities and assists in the supervision of the following student positions:
