How can I gain access to Carleton’s ArcGIS/ArcGIS Online account?
Sign in to Carleton’s ArcGIS account using your Carleton user name and password.
You may also sign in on the ArcGIS Online homepage. Sign in by clicking the option “Your ArcGIS organization’s URL”.

Contact Rebecca Barkmeier at ITS, Wei-Hsin Fu at the Environmental Studies program, or Austin Mason at the History department for apps not assigned to new users by default, e.g. the Python Notebook.
I need to use ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap or CityEngine off campus. What are my options?
- For ArcGIS Pro and CityEngine, there are two options:
- Named user license – When you first sign in Carleton’s ArcGIS Online organization, you are granted the named-user license for ArcGIS Pro, CityEngine and ArcGIS Urban. You can use these software installed on any computers by signing in Carleton’s ArcGIS Online organization using your Carleton user name and password.
- Single use license – Contact Rebecca Barkmeier or Wei-Hsin Fu for the single use license. You can authorize your computer with a single use license file to use the software off-campus. Single use licenses are valid for one year and expire at the end of June. You will need to request a new license file for the next year before the current license file expires.
- For ArcMap, only the single use license is available.
Although license checkout is also an option, we do not recommend it due to the more complicated nature of the license checkout and return process.

Can I keep items created with Carleton’s ArcGIS account after I graduate?
Your membership with Carleton’s ArcGIS Online account is cancelled when you graduate. Be sure to export your work to shapefiles, geodatabases, etc.
You can keep web maps and applications by copying them to a free ArcGIS Online public account (you have to create the account first). Note that the public account does not allow access to “premium” datasets or functionalities that consume “credits.”
If items in your account were created for a faculty project, move them to the faculty member’s account.
Rebecca Barkmeier and Wei-Hsin are here to help!
