Brian Kilgour ’11 was awarded a Fulbright fellowship to study the effects of tourism on the local Buryat community in southern Siberia. Building on his experiences on the Carleton Moscow Seminar, Brian plans to conduct research in Ulan-Ude, the capital of the Republic of Buryatia, as well as traveling to more remote areas. He also hopes to study Buryat language and history at the local university.
A double major in Political Science/IR and Russian, Brian hopes to eventually join the Foreign Service. “The Fulbright will give me valuable research experience, knowledge of an area of the world rarely visited by Americans, and an early experience representing the US abroad.”
