The requirements for the Russian major are flexible enough to allow students to focus on a particular area of interest within the field of Russian studies.
While some choose a traditional literature major and take at least one 200-level course in literary critical methods, other students may choose to pursue advanced course work in such fields as history, anthropology, linguistics, and art history, applying methodologies from those (or other) disciplines to their specialization within the study of Russian area studies.
Off-campus study counts towards fulfillment of both major options.
