Selam is currently employed by Franklin Templeton Investments in San Francisco.
Selam was a Mellon Mays Fellow at Carleton who did research at the interface between Economics and Sociology under the supervision of Prof. Annette Nierobisz. Through that work, she utilized both economic and sociological/anthropological methodologies, marrying quantitative and qualitative work to strengthen her research arguments.
Selam is currently using these skills in the work force and considering graduate programs that focus on combining these two disciplines.
