Keith Ellison, the first Muslim elected to a seat in the United States Congress as Representative of the 5th Congressional District of Minnesota, spoke at Carleton College Friday, February 12. Ellison is known for his community activism and civil rights and has a strong Democratic voice in the opposition of troop increases in Iraq and providing aid to victims of genocide in Darfur. He also has strong convictions in aiding stem cell research, health care reform, and raising the minimum wage.
