To complete the legal name change process, you’ll need to provide the Registrar’s Office with documentation of the new legal name in the form of a court order. That documentation can be uploaded through Workday.
You should also contact the Social Security Administration to update your name. Future federal or state financial aid could be delayed or denied if your name and Social Security number do not match.
Changing Your Diploma/Honors Name
As you get ready for commencement, the Registrar’s Office will send you a commencement checklist, which includes verifying your diploma name. Your transcript must print your legal name, but you are able to update the first and middle name that appears on the diploma and in the program for commencement. You can change your Diploma name through your Workday Student Profile. Please see our guide on Changing or Adding Your Diploma Name in Workday.
Please contact registrar@carleton.edu with any questions about your diploma name.
