THINGS TO KNOW
- Zimbra Trash and Junk folders will NOT be copied to Gmail.
- Filters and Signatures will NOT copy to Gmail, so you will need to recreate them.
- Calendar shares will migrate. Calendar subscriptions will need to be recreated.
- If you have a Zimbra folder named “Archive”, please rename it prior to the migration. This is a reserved word in Google, so it will not create a label of this name. Messages will migrate, but will not contain the “Archive” label.
- Zimbra tags become labels (which display as folders) in Gmail. If you don’t want this, you will want to remove tags prior to migration.
- You cannot share mail folders in Gmail. Your Super Hero will work with ITS on identifying options. (Note: group mailboxes like admissions@carleton.edu will work as is)
THINGS TO DO
- Make sure your mail folders are not nested under the INBOX.
- Consider reducing the number of folders and sub-folders you have in Zimbra.
- Run the Zimbra saved searches (see details under Gmail2 – 4 Weeks Out – How to Prepare)
- Clean up “Emailed Contacts” to avoid creating contacts for every address you’ve ever emailed (which will end up on your phone if you sync to your phone).
- Take advantage of written, video, or in person training options. Several are being offered.
