This two-day summer institute sought to increase the education and engagement of those working in higher education on the upcoming census. Organized by Herman and Gertrude Mosier Stark Professor of Biology and the Natural Sciences Debby Walser-Kuntz in partnership with Professor Adrienne Falcon at Metropolitan State University and Professor Lena Jones at Minneapolis Community and Technical College, the institute drew participants from a variety of higher educational institutions, including public and private four-year colleges and universities, two-year community colleges, and tribal colleges.
The institute stressed the ramifications of an incomplete count, and disseminated information to help campuses and their communities participate more fully in the census. Professor Walser-Kuntz and her partners developed a website to host educational materials on the census, with a plan to include materials produced by participants of the institute, in order to create a repository of collaborative materials.
