October 12-13, 2018

For this two-day event, guest veteran artists shared their work on campus. Hosted in partnership with the Minnesota Humanities Center’s Veterans’ Voices Initiative, the event featured veterans and their work that is centered on experiences of war.

J.A. Moad II is a playwright, pilot, performer, and veteran from Northfield, who discussed the importance of sharing the stories of veterans and performed Act III of his play, Outside Paducah – the Wars at Home.

Berkeley ceramic artist á shared his own “Cups of War” project. Tool makes ceramic cups with war imagery, and gives them out for free in exchange for conversations about the experiences of war (to learn more about Tool and his work, see this article from The New York Times Magazine). In addition, Tool hosted a hands-on ceramic workshop for students, in which he threw new cups and students helped him decorate them with war motifs.

Finally, local writers from military families Emily Oliver (CCCE) and Ember Johnson read excerpts from their work.
