In conjunction with Associate Professor of Religion Kristin Bloomer’s course, Religion 238: “The Sacred Body,” Carleton hosted Hālau Kiawekūpono O Ka Ua (A Good Streak of Rain), a Hawaiian hula troupe (called a Halau). The course explored a variety of religious approaches to the body across time and traditions, including how bodies can express religious and cultural messages through dance.

During their residency, the Halau held a discussion with Professor Bloomer’s class, visited the Carleton Arboretum to teach students about the materials and process of creating leis, performed at the American Indian Center in Minneapolis, led a master class in Hula dancing, and performed for Carleton and the Northfield community.
