Visiting Assistant Professor of Educational Studies Kathryn Wegner organized a panel to discuss the state of public school funding. The panel featured Erica Schatzlein, a member of the St. Paul Federation of Teachers (SPFT; now called St. Paul Federation of Educators – SPFE), Peter Burke ’14, and Carleton students who participated in an Academic Civic Engagement project in Professor Wegner’s class. Union members spoke about their efforts to reinvigorate the labor movement and fight for fully funded public schools. The panel built on Professor Wegner’s winter term class, Educational Studies 260: “The Politics of Teaching,” which involved a collaborative project with SPFE and examined the complex issues facing public education today.
