Professor Andrew Carlson planned a series of conversations to explore the intersection of the arts and social justice. The conversations brought theater artists to campus virtually to discuss the role artists play in making social change, how their work responds to social inequity and how performance can envision a more just future. The conversations were recorded to create a digital archive of how these artists engage with questions of social justice in their own work. Furthermore, Professor Carlson planned to involve students in preparing for and moderating these conversations.

On April 8, Professor Carlson hosted a conversation with the playwright José Cruz González on his work in community-based theater. In addition to Public Works support, the series was also sponsored by the Office of the Director of the Arts and the Department of Theater and Dance.
