Andrea Mazzariello, Assistant Professor of Music
During Fall Term 2019, Professor Andrea Mazzariello taught an independent study on collaborative, civically-engaged community music composition. The course involved regular visits to the Northfield Union of Youth at the Key, Professor Mazzariello’s community partner for the last couple of years. After the term ended, Professor Mazzariello and Joey Castaneda ’20 engaged in reflection on the experience and created documentation on the project. In addition, they worked with staff at the Key to identify their needs and seek out appropriate funding. Professor Mazzariello hopes their work can provide a model for future projects to ensure reflection as well as outcomes that include practical resources for community partners.
