Strand publishes paper with Brown ’17

2 December 2019

Julia Strand, assistant Professor of Psychology, published a paper with Violet Brown ’17 in the Journal of Cognition. The paper, About Face: Seeing the Talker Improves Spoken Word Recognition but Increases Listening Effort, demonstrates that although seeing the face of a talker (relative to only hearing them) improves speech intelligibility, it also increases the cognitive load necessary to understand the speech.
